   As part of Expolaroid, Basia Embiricos displays the vintage polaroids of portrait photographer Marianne Rosenstiehl. Unique pieces, these polaroids are working documents. In the process of shooting portraits, these prints are used to build up and adjust the lighting. They have a technical function. 
The model hasn't yet set to work. They're waiting, just there, available. For them, nothing is at stake at this moment. It's possible that their minds are filled with anticipation of what's to come, the setting in motion of the bodies and the intensity of their presence as a voluntary act. 
To extract these polaroids from their primary function and observe them as photographic objects in their own right, is to take an interest in this moment of a pose that is not posed, not yet posed. It means being interested in the moment of neutral presence that precedes the work, before taking note of what will be mirrored between the model and the photographer. 
The poetry of muted colors and the ametropic veil inherent to the Polaroid process make these faces, which were the glory of the 80s and 90s, appear with an unreal closeness, as if filtered by the screen of a dream.

  
    Dans le cadre du parcours Expolaroid, Basia Embiricos présente les polaroids vintage de la portraitiste Marianne Rosenstiehl. 
Pièces uniques, ces polaroids sont des documents de travail. Dans le processus de prise de vue de portraits, ces épreuves sont utilisées pour construire et régler les lumières. 
Elles ont une fonction technique.
Le modèle ne s’est pas encore mis au travail. Il est en attente, juste là, disponible. Pour lui rien n’est encore en jeu à cet instant. Il est possible que son esprit soit traversé par anticipation de ce qui va suivre, la mise en mouvement des corps et l’intensité de sa présence comme acte volontaire. 
Extraire ces polaroids de leur fonction première pour les observer comme objet photographique à part entière, c’est s’intéresser à ce moment d’une pose qui ne pose pas, pas encore. C’est s’intéresser à l’instant de présence neutre qui précède le travail, avant de prendre connaissance de ce qui s’accordera en miroir entre le modèle et la photographe.
La poésie des couleurs feutrées et du voile amétropique, propres au procédé Polaroid, font apparaitre ces visages qui ont été la gloire des années 80/90, avec une proximité irréelle, comme filtrés par l’écran du rêve.

 The rest of the world's fascination with French women - their innate, timeless style, carefree attitude and unique ability to age gracefully - is a timeless subject for fashion journalists. We return again and again to the cliché of the "French girl" to try and decode its mysteries.
But here, beyond the clichés, is a story about women: four of the most radiant and enigmatic women in French cinema, and a photographer who lifts the veil to show her subjects in those moments of expectation and vulnerability that precede the public figure's entrance into the spotlight.The exhibition Four Faces, currently on view at La Cabine until September 2, presents a selection from the vast body of work of 58-year-old French photographer Marianne Rosenstiehl. These portraits feature four emblematic icons who have gracefully weathered the years: Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Adjani, Juliette Binoche and Isabelle Huppert. 
It's rare for an artist to photograph a face continuously for decades. The fact that many of them have become legendary makes this exhibition doubly interesting.

  La fascination du reste du monde pour les femmes françaises - leur style inné et indémodable, leur insouciance et leur capacité unique à vieillir avec élégance - est un sujet intemporel pour les journalistes de mode. Nous revenons encore et encore sur le cliché de la "fille française" pour essayer de décoder ses mystères.


Mais ici au delà des clichés, il s'agit d'une histoire de femmes : quatre des femmes les plus rayonnantes et énigmatiques du cinéma français et une photographe qui lève le voile pour donner à voir ses sujets dans ces moments d’attente et de vulnérabilité qui précèdent l’entrée en lumière du personnage public.


L'exposition Four Faces, actuellement à la Cabine jusqu'au 2 septembre, présente une sélection du vaste corpus de l'œuvre de la photographe française Marianne Rosenstiehl, âgée de 58 ans. Ces portraits mettent en scène quatre icônes emblématiques qui ont traversé les années avec grâce : Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Adjani, Juliette Binoche et Isabelle Huppert. 


Il est rare qu'un artiste photographie un visage de manière continue pendant des décennies. Le fait que nombre d'entre eux soient devenus légendaires rend cette exposition doublement intéressante.

 Few writers combine a visual universe in which they are the main actors with such literary fame. This phenomenon, blending color and black and white, is a collection of portraits taken since 1995, mostly unpublished. They bear witness to the originality and aura of Amélie Nothomb's personality, at times comical, romantic, theatrical, daring, or even unsettling. The writer freely plays with her image, granting Marianne Rosenstiehl full artistic freedom in her photographic approach. This exhibition offers both literature enthusiasts and photography lovers privileged access to the imaginative world of the most prolific French-speaking author, who was awarded the Renaudot Prize in 2021. 


  Rares sont les écrivains qui conjuguent un univers visuel dont ils sont les actrices ou acteurs principaux avec une telle notoriété littéraire. Phénomène, mêlant couleur et noir et blanc, est un ensemble de portraits réalisés depuis 1995, en majorité inédits. Ils témoignent de l’originalité et de l’aura de la personnalité d’Amélie Nothomb, tour à tour cocasse, romantique, théâtrale, hardie ou même inquiétante. L’écrivaine s’amuse librement avec son image, en laissant à Marianne Rosenstiehl toute liberté dans son exercice photographique. Cette exposition offre, à un public d’amateurs de littérature comme aux amateurs de photographie, un accès privilégié à l’imaginaire de la plus prolifique des auteures francophones, récompensée du prix Renaudot 2021.

« Magicienne, femme fatale, geisha… A chaque page, Amélie Nothomb se pare d’un nouveau visage. La voici un pansement sur les lèvres, une rose dans la bouche, le regard puissant, en noir et blanc, dans la position du priant. Elle pose, elle joue, elle rejoue des scènes. Dans ce théâtre de photos, la métamorphose est saisissante. Qui donc est-elle? Comme chez Cindy Sherman, on cherche la femme sous le masque. Que se cache-t-il derrière ses yeux couleur charbon, ses cheveux de jais et ses robes aux pétales noirs? L’auteur rêve. Elle se suspend à une balançoire et calotte en talons dans le vide. C’est un corbeau sans ailes….. C’est une Amélie Nothomb transfigurée qui nous apparait. Humaine, avec ses peurs, ses doutes et ses envies. Alors, est-elle si différente de nous? At the start of the project, which will bring together actress Juliette Binoche and dancer-choreographer Akram Khan for the IN-I show, Marianne Rosenstiehl takes studio photographs of their very first exchanges in movement.
The corpus of these photographs will be exhibited in November 2008 at the Artcurial gallery, and will be shown again in December 2021 in a duo exhibition with Sylvie Lancrenon entitled "Les corps fragiles" at the Basia Embiricos gallery.
  
  
Au démarrage du projet qui réunira pour le spectacle IN-I la comédienne Juliette Binoche et le danseur chorégraphe Akram Khan, Marianne Rosenstiehl photographie en studio leurs tous premiers échanges en mouvements.
Le corpus de ces photographies sera exposé en novembre 2008 à la galerie Artcurial puis repris en décembre 2021 pour une exposition en duo avec Sylvie Lancrenon «&#38;nbsp; Les corps fragiles » à la galerie Basia Embiricos.
